It stops the saw blade becoming jammed in the kerf when using your circular hand saw without a riving knife in a stationary setup, thus protecting you against the workpiece possibly being knocked back.

Riving knife 6903000 is only designed for circular hand saws without a riving knife and circular saw blades with a maximum diameter of 160 mm and a cutting width between 2.4 mm and 2.8 mm.
Riving knife 6904000 is only designed for circular hand saws without a riving knife and circular saw blades with a maximum diameter of 200 mm, a cutting width between 2.4 mm and 2.8 mm and a maximum cutting depth of 66 mm.
